Little Things Lubbock Loves – Kokio Chicken!

You ever find a spot in Lubbock that’s so good, you almost don’t want to tell anybody about it—just so it stays your little secret? Well, I’m breaking my own rule today, because this place is too good not to share! Ladies and gentlemen, it’s my honor to introduce those of you who have never been to a place called Kokio Chicken!

Where is Kokio in Lubbock?

There’s a little Korean fried chicken joint tucked away at 3211 50th Street, Suite A—right across from Monterey High School—and it’s owned by one of the nicest guys in town. His name’s Joe, and the man knows his way around a fryer. The first time I walked in, Joe greeted me with a big smile, and he’s been just as friendly every single time since. You can tell he really cares about every customer who walks through those doors.

What Does Kokio Chicken Taste Like?

Now let me tell you about this chicken. It’s not your average fried chicken—it’s Korean Fried Chicken, and that’s a whole different level of crispy! Korean fried chicken is famous for being double-fried, which gives it that paper-thin, crackly crust that stays crispy even after it’s sauced up. It’s typically lighter than Southern-style fried chicken, but it packs a ton of flavor thanks to sweet, spicy, garlicky sauces that’ll make you want to lick your fingers clean—and then go back for more!

My personal go-to? The Honey Bee Rice Cake. It’s sweet, sticky, crispy, and totally addictive! The rice cakes are chewy and satisfying, and when they’re coated in that honey glaze, it’s basically like eating the best fried chicken you’ve ever tasted—except it’s Korean, and way better. That said, the chicken wings and chicken tenders are absolutely top-tier too. Perfectly cooked, sauced just right, and always fresh.

Where Did Joe Learn to Cook Such Good Chicken?

The magic behind it all? Joe uses his mom’s traditional Korean recipes. That’s right—real-deal, home-style Korean cooking passed down from his mother. It’s not just delicious, it’s got heart behind it. You can taste the love in every bite!

If you’re looking to support a local business that delivers in both flavor and friendliness, you owe it to yourself to check this place out. Joe’s doing something special here in Lubbock, and the least we can do is show up hungry!

Seriously—go eat there. You won’t regret it…
