See Ya Seed Oil: Local Lubbock Restaurant Switches To Beef Tallow

After working extensively with its suppliers, a locally owned and operated Lubbock restaurant has switched from seed oils to beef tallow for frying.

Should Lubbock Restaurants Use Beef Tallow Instead Of Seed Oils?

Seed oils, a restaurant standard for cooking and especially frying, have recently come under public scrutiny. It is ALL over TikTok and other social media platforms- at least if you are like me and follow many nutrition accounts.

The “danger” of seed oils, especially in modest amounts, may be currently overhyped, but they can potentially skew your body’s omega-6 to omega-3 ratio, according to the Cleveland Clinic.

Why Does My Omega Ratio Matter?

An imbalance of omega-6 and omega-3s can lead to chronic inflammation, which can cause or worsen conditions like:

  • Arthritis
  • Heart disease
  • Metabolic syndrome
  • Stroke
  • Type 2 diabetes

However, if you are eating seed oils in moderation, you probably shouldn’t worry about this too much, unless you already have one of these ailments. The best policy would be to talk to your physician.

But Is Beef Tallow Better?

If we are talking flavor- ab-so-freaking-lutely! Remember the way McDonald’s nuggets tasted when we were kids*? That was beef fat, baby.

*must have been alive prior to the 90s. Sorry babies.
