Stalking suspect jailed after violating criminal trespass at Texas Tech

LUBBOCK, Texas — Kaleb De La Garza, 21, was arrested Wednesday after being accused of stalking someone he was previously in a relationship with according to court documents obtained on Friday.

According to court documents, De La Garza had previously found the victim’s home and forced his way into her apartment to assault her and damaged the front door before sending the victim multiple messages.

The victim went on to file a Title 9 complaint with Texas Tech University, who issued De La Garza a criminal trespass warning from the campus and had him take classes remotely.

According to court documents, the victim was manipulated by De La Garza into removing the complaint after De La Garza stated that he would delete sexually explicit photos and videos of the victim from his phone. The trespass, however, still stood. The victim agreed, and the two met up to delete the photos, court records said.

Court documents said on Tuesday, De La Garza told the victim he recovered the photos and videos and threatened to post the files online if she did not give him money. De La Garza, who had been living with his parents in the San Antonio area, said that he was coming to Lubbock to collect said money.

The victim contacted the Lubbock Police Department and during an interview with a detective, she received a call from De La Garza, saying he was on the way to see her and collect the money. The victim told De La Garza to leave her alone and told the detective she didn’t feel safe in her apartment and would therefore stay at her friend’s apartment…
