Less wind, more heat today

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Today’s weather highlights are even less wind and a bit more heat than yesterday. That’s followed by a weekend with increasing wind and heat.

A dry and generally sunny day with high clouds drifting overhead. It will be a very warm to hot afternoon with highs about five degrees above average for mid-May. Lubbock’s May 16 average high is 84° (the average low 57°). The record high is 102° set on this date in 1996 (the record low is 37° in 1945).

Wind this morning, northwesterly, will be around 10 mph. Wind this afternoon, southwesterly, will increase a bit to around 12 to 13 mph. Quite an improvement over the past several days.

Partly to mostly cloudy tonight with a light southerly wind, around 10 mph. Not as cool with Saturday morning lows around 7 to 8 degrees milder (warmer) than Friday morning…
