Lubbock, Texas— For some Memorial Day might just mean another day off from work and maybe spending it out on the lake, but for some the day’s meaning is in the name. It is to remember those who laid down their life so that the American people can enjoy their freedoms.
Newly appointed director for the West Texas State Veterans Cemetery, Sarah Weede told everythinglubbock.com the project is coming together and should have it up and running later this year. Weede said, “I’ve just been honored and very blessed for them to select me, to take care of my brothers and sisters in the final step of their lives.”
Weede herself is an Air Force veteran and Lubbock native who has more than 10 years of service under her belt and said getting that title means everything to her. Weede said, “because to me, it’s not just a place in the ground where we bury someone. This is going to become sacred ground for our brothers and sisters. There’s this camaraderie and there’s this family that comes with being a veteran, whether you were Navy, Air Force, Marines, Army.”…
