Lubbock, Texas has always been a home for Van Halen and David Lee Roth. We’ve seen the full original band, the Sammy Hagar led band, and a stellar David Lee Roth show that I thought was one of the best performances I’ve ever seen from him (and I’ve seen him a lot).
I was near ground zero when Van Halen launched in Southern California. I attended some of the famous backyard parties that featured live music and “free beer” for a nominal cover charge. I still remember everyone being spotlighted by police helicopters as they broke up the shenanigans.
Suffice it to say, I’m a big Van Halen fan and I did not check out until Gary Cherone showed up and the result was something unrecognizable. I’ve been backstage with the band a number of times, and spent a few minutes having Dave autograph my copy of “Crazy From The Heat”…
