LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Several elements, including a moist air mass and a cold front, will combine this afternoon to fire off thunderstorms. Some storms are likely to be severe. It’s another day to Be Weather Aware.
Because of this, we have declared today a First Alert Weather Day.
The cold front will be the focus for storm initiation, likely around 3 or 4 PM. The location of the front at that time will determine where the storms begin. At this time, the front is expected to be near or just south of Lubbock. The graphic below indicates these storms will be in an environment favorable for rapid strengthening. Some will become severe.
