LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A few showers are possible on the South Plains this morning with a quiet afternoon to follow. Severe storms, however, are likely to move across the KCBD/FOX34 viewing area tonight.
This morning’s overcast will gradually give way to increasing sunshine this afternoon. It won’t be hot, with a breeze from the northeast this morning and southeast this afternoon. Temperatures will peak nearly ten degrees lower than yesterday.
Lubbock’s June 4 average high is 90° (the average low 63°). The record high is 106° set on this date in 2013 (the record low is 47° in 1970).
Storms, some severe, are likely in the viewing area overnight. From a slight late this evening the threat increases to likely after midnight. Storms are expected to be widespread with some severe storms.
The main severe threat will be very large hail, possibly up to around 2 inches. Secondary threats will be wind gusts greater than 70 mph and flooding downpours. While some areas may miss out on rain, some spots may receive more than 2 inches…
