Where is the safest place to hide in your Lubbock home during severe weather?

LUBBOCK, Texas — With all the severe weather in the South Plains recently, it’s important to have a designated safe room to use in case of an emergency. That designated safe spot in a home must meet certain requirements for it to have that title.

Warranty Manager of Betenbough Homes, Tanner Schrader, explained what a safe room might need to be called that.

“If we can find a room that’s closer to the middle of our house, most of the time it’s going to be pantries, closets, bathrooms, stuff like that. Most of us, I mean there are houses here that have home shelters, basements, obviously those are those are awesome. For those that don’t have those, really, it’s the room that’s concentrated in the middle of the house,” Schrader said.
