Food for Thought: Warm milk, grease accumulation at one low performer this week

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – More than 60 food establishments were inspected this week as Lubbock health inspectors checked to make sure they’re keeping clean – and keeping your family safe.

Here’s this week’s Top and Low Performers.

Rise N Shine Donuts at 8001 Quaker had 18 violations.

  • A container of milk was sitting out at a temperature of 72 degrees. It must be 41 degrees or colder. Cooked potatoes were not cold enough.
  • A knife was touching a box of gloves.
  • A dirty, dry wiping cloth was on top of utensils.
  • Two employees did not wash their hands between changing tasks and putting on gloves.
  • An employee used their bare hands to turn off the faucet at the hand sink. A barrier, like a paper towel, must be used to prevent cross contamination.
  • Cardboard was used as a liner on top of the oven.
  • Paint was stored over beverage containers.
  • A container of medicine balm was stored above a prep table.
  • Two employees did not have their food handler certification.

  • Gasket coming off of door located on reach-in cooler in dry storage room.
  • Accumulation of grease on door of hot warmer located behind service counter.

  • Floor, located under three-compartment sink, is not smooth and easily cleanable.
  • Cardboard lining floor under packages of bottled beverages located in dry storage room.
  • Brown residue located on walls throughout facility.
