Judge makes ruling in case of fentanyl overdose that killed Texas Tech student

LUBBOCK, Texas — After he previously pleaded guilty, Casey Bledsoe, 26, was sentenced to 10 years of deferred adjudication, with 120 days of shock jail time at the Lubbock County Detention Center, beginning Tuesday.

Bledsoe was arrested back in 2023 and charged for the delivery of a controlled substance that resulted in the death of a victim. He was in a fraternity at Texas Tech, where he met the victim.

According to court documents, Bledsoe testified in court saying, “I had a problem, I was an addict.”

The 26-year-old defendant explained he started using pills through another fraternity member. Bledsoe didn’t realize the blue pills were Fentanyl and used them for almost half a year. In March of 2023, Bledsoe picked up some blue pills for himself and the victim. He said he “noticed the victim was messed up and texted him not to mix the pills.”…
