LUBBOCK, Texas— The Lubbock County Criminal District Attorney along with law enforcement held a three-day human trafficking training. A partnership with the human trafficking institute focusing on best practices in sex trafficking investigations, including victim identification, utilizing digital evidence and how to approach victim-centered engagement.

According to the HTI website, 1,456 traffickers were arrested and charged last year and with this training they are hoping more traffickers are behind bars.
Traci Wiseley is an assistant criminal district attorney in Lubbock, and she also attended the training, “a team of prosecutors and law enforcement who have a lot of experience with these kinds of crimes. And so, they just came in and did a three-day intensive training with prosecutors, law enforcement and victim services organizations within Lubbock about identifying and investigating and prosecuting these kinds of crimes.”
Wiseley said its focused on a lot of legal strategies, as well of collecting evidence to help victims, “victims who have gone through something extremely traumatic and through a traumatic experience that has probably been long term in their life. And so human trafficking victims are a very unique victim of crime because of what they’ve experienced, the length of time they’ve experienced it, and all the different areas it has affected them.”

But also focusing on resources available to them, Wiseley said, “collaboration between agencies, including victim services, organization, so that we can get the victims someplace safe where they need to be, as well as collect the evidence we need to so that we can prosecute these cases.”…
