Ransom Canyon firefighters say new technology can save time and lives

LUBBOCK, Texas– The Ransom Canyon Fire Department says it is the first in Texas to install a new firefighting system that allows a single firefighter to begin extinguishing a fire without assistance, potentially saving valuable time and property.

The system, known as Sam boost, puts the pump controls directly on the hose nozzle. That means a firefighter arriving alone can pull the hose, activate the system, and immediately start attacking the flames, without needing a second person to operate the truck’s pump.

“If only one firefighter happens to be in the city when the alarm goes off, one firefighter can get the truck on scene and begin fighting the fire,” said Mark Stripling, a firefighter and chaplain with the department. “All the controls are right there on the nozzle.”
