LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech student continues role as cotton farmer at twenty-two years old.
West Texas cotton farmers need to leave their farms to the next generation, and twenty-two-year-old Turner Heffington is stepping up to the responsibility.
Heffington is a third-generation cotton farmer following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather. As a kid, he helped his father work on irrigation pivots, and by fourteen years old, he could drive a tractor on his own. He’s now been farming cotton fields from Muleshoe to Anton by himself for two years.

On top of his nearly 100-hour work weeks during planting and harvesting, Heffington is also a full-time student at Texas Tech. He is majoring in Ag Economics and plans to graduate at the end of Fall 2025…
