East Lubbock Art House celebrates five-year anniversary

LUBBOCK, Texas — The East Lubbock Art House is celebrating its fifth anniversary of serving the East Lubbock community through artistic expression.

The organization was founded in 2020 to provide marginalized members of the Lubbock community access to various opportunities, programs and outlets for expression that were lacking before its inception.

In a statement, ELAH explained the importance of the milestone anniversary. They stated, “This milestone means everything to us. Five years ago, we started East Lubbock Art House with a mission to make the arts more accessible, affirming, and inclusive—especially for Black, brown, queer and working-class communities on the East Side. We’ve grown from a small idea into a vibrant space that now hosts over a dozen programs ranging from youth art education and mural projects to wellness workshops and free community events.”

The Art House is also hosting a formal celebration on July 26 to commemorate the occasion. Guests were able to purchase individual seats or tables of four to build flower arrangements with flowers provided from the ROOTS Booker T. Washington Garden.
