‘See something say something’: Texas Tech Police Department shares safety tips ahead of new school year

LUBBOCK, Texas–As students prepare to return for another semester of school, campus safety remains a top priority for the Texas Tech Police Department. Caitlynn Jeffries, the department’s Public Information Officer, shared insights on common safety issues, crime prevention efforts, and resources available to students.

Can you really get the plague from prairie dogs?

“Vehicle burglaries are one of the main concerns we see on campus,” Jeffries said. “Students should always lock their vehicles and avoid leaving valuables in plain sight. Parking in a well-lit area can make a big difference,” Jeffries said.

The Texas Tech Police Department operates twenty-four seven, three hundred and sixty-five days a year, with officers and dispatchers monitoring campus year-round. Jeffries emphasized the importance of student awareness. “Students make up a large majority of the campus compared to the faculty and staff. So, when they see something, it’s important for them to call us and let us know what’s going on.”…
