LUBBOCK, Texas — A Lubbock pharmacist is speaking out about what he says is a growing issue, insurance companies steering prescriptions away from local pharmacies, often resulting in higher costs for patients and insurers alike.

Chris Hobart, pharmacist in charge at Highland Pharmacy in Lubbock, said he’s witnessed the impact firsthand.
“I had a prescription that the copay was $8.12 at my pharmacy,” Hobart said. “And then the next month it was forced to a mail order pharmacy and it went up to $19.80.”
