Lubbock city manager explains appraisal recalculation during budget work

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A change in state law requiring a recalculation in the previous year’s tax levy has created a major shakeup in budget work for the Lubbock city council and city staff. City manager Jarrett Atkinson said Thursday, following reporting on this issue yesterday, he has already heard from someone at another city facing the same last-minute challenge during this busy time of year.

This is a follow-up to an earlier story on Atkinson’s update to council Tuesday, on a tax levy spreadsheet the Lubbock Central Appraisal District delivered to him Monday evening. To allow time to work through the unexpected data, Wednesday’s budget work session was canceled.
