LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Friday is kicking off a stormy stretch of weather as multiple rounds of storms move through the area this weekend.
Storms have already begun to fire up in eastern New Mexico. As they drift eastward, storms could merge into a broken line, bringing strong wind gusts topping 60 mph, very heavy rain, and even localized flash flooding.
Activity will track eastward at first, then pivot southeast overnight. That should help keep flooding scattered, but brief, intense downpours are still possible. Overnight storms are expected to exit around sunrise.
Tomorrow morning will feature clouds and a few lingering storms with temperatures in the upper 60s. The weather will likely stay quiet through late morning, with highs climbing into the 80s under stubborn cloud cover.
If you’re planning to tailgate the Tech game tomorrow afternoon, scattered storms may redevelop between 3pm and 5pm. However, this round of activity isn’t expected to be widespread. Meaning, there’s a chance your tailgate will stay dry but that will change as the evening develops…
