LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – After a stormy wet weekend, the first day of September opens up with seasonable warmth and slim chance for afternoon storms. Most of the region will stay dry, but the end of the week looks more unsettled as storm chances return.
Labor Day will be mostly quiet thanks to a broad ridge of high pressure over the western U.S. driving in northwest flow aloft. That combined with a drier air mass in place means today will be quieter than the past few days.
Temperatures will start off in the 60s with some patchy fog.
That is expected to burn off by mid-morning as the high will climb to the upper 80s which is seasonable for the month of September.
A few isolated thunderstorms may form this afternoon. But any storm that does form may bring brief gust winds more than heavy rain. Otherwise, expect mostly sunny skies.
Tonight will be dry with lows dipping into the 50s and low 60s.
This pattern isn’t expected to change much through Wednesday and Thursday. The ridge hangs on to the west and rain chances remain low through mid-week with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s.
By late Friday, things start to shift…
