LUBBOCK, Texas — What began an enjoyable cup of coffee now has turned into a full time business for Lubbock resident, Kenny Mayfield.
Mayfield’s background in plant genetics resulted in travels across the globe, the common factor? They all had great coffee. It wasn’t until he experienced that next level taste at a coffee shop in Belton, Texas that he decided to take on the task to do it himself.

The arid climate in his current residency of Lubbock Texas, proved to be a perfect climate for the roasting process. After many attempts, Mayfield used his science background to create his own unique roasting formula. “The only way for me to get better was to record every single step,” he explained.
Seven years later, Tierras Planas Rosters has become Mayfield’s full time career. He stated that “It started as a side gig and I’ve turned it into a place where a side gig has become full-time and the full-time became a side gig.”
