LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Texas DPS is celebrating a successful helicopter hoist mission, after a hiker was stranded in Palo Duro Canyon last week.
The 30-year-old hiker, whose name has not been released, was severely dehydrated and reported a rolled ankle. Ground crews called Lubbock’s air station when it became clear they could not get him off the rugged trail fast enough.
“The ranger called us and said ‘hey, we probably need you up here for a hoist mission to get this guy as fast as possible,’” Toby Zalman, a sergeant tactical flight officer with DPS, said…
