Lubbock men accused of starving child, confining him to closet

LUBBOCK, Texas — Alfonso Ybarra, 62, and Jarred Ybarra, 32, were arrested and accused of depriving a 10-year-old boy of food as a punishment, according to court documents obtained on Friday.

Alfonso was arrested by the U.S. Marshals task force in the 2300 block of Mac Davis Lane on Friday. Jarred was arrested in the 500 block of Slide Road.

Court documents said in August, authorities were called to the hospital for a report of a malnourished child. According to court documents, the investigation revealed Alfonso and Jarred were also accused of confining the child in a closet with human feces.

Court documents stated Alfonso told officers the child was known for stealing food at school, stores or any other available location. Alfonso told police if the victim was considered to be behaving badly, the child was often denied food when the family dined together at restaurants.

Alfonso and Jarred were charged with two counts of Injuring a Child resulting in serious bodily injury. As of Friday, Alfonso remained at the Lubbock County Detention Center on a combined $125,000 bond. Jarred’s bond was set at $250,000…
