Wet and ‘Cooler’ This Weekend

LUBBOCK, TX (KLBK) – KLBK Chief Meteorologist Jacob Riley has your Friday night weather update for September 12, 2025.

Tonight: Increasingly cloudy. Low of 69°. Winds SSE 10-15 MPH.Tomorrow: Mostly cloudy with PM storms increasing. High of 86°. Winds SSE 12-18 MPH.

TONIGHT:

Clouds will increase through the evening and overnight hours tonight as our next storm system approaches from the west. We will see winds out of the south-southeast under an increasingly cloudy sky, with sustained speeds of 10-15 MPH expected. Lows will drop into the low 60s to low 70s by sunrise on Saturday, with a stray shower or two possible over northwestern areas.

SATURDAY:

A cloudy and ‘cooler’ day is expected across the KLBK forecast area for our Saturday! High temperatures will peak anywhere from the upper 70 across eastern New Mexico, to the low 90s over the lower elevations of the Rolling Plains. We will keep a mostly cloudy to overcast sky around the region, with winds out of the south-southeast sustained at 12-18 MPH. Occasional gusts upwards of 20-30 MPH will be possible. Showers and storms will increase from west to east throughout the day, with the most widespread, heaviest activity expected from 4-11 PM! Overall, the Texas Tech vs. Oregon State game should remain mostly dry. An isolated shower or storm cannot be completely ruled out, with odds highest towards the end of the 4th quarter. Some locally heavy downpours could result in isolated flash flooding, with as much as 1-3″ of rainfall for a few select locations. Some gusty winds and/or small hail will be possible with the strongest storms. This activity will linger overnight, although it will become less widespread. An overcast to mostly cloudy sky will remain, as lows bottom out in the upper 50s to upper 60s.

SHORT TERM FORECAST:

Isolated showers and storms will remain around the region on Sunday, with just a stray shower or storm possible on Monday. Additional rainfall amounts should remain below 1″ area wide through both days. A partly to mostly cloudy sky will persist around the region, with high temperatures continuing to range from the upper 70s to low 90s. Winds will remain out of the south for the most part, with sustained speeds of 10-20 MPH expected. Morning lows will continue to settle into the upper 50s to upper 60s each day. Overall, temperatures look to remain just a few degrees above average for this time of year.

EXTENDED FORECAST:

Aside from a stray afternoon rain shower here and there, we will remain dry through our extended forecast period. High temperatures will return in the mid 80s to mid 90s under a partly cloudy to mostly clear sky each day. Morning lows will remain in the upper 50s to upper 60s. Winds look to take on more of a south-southwesterly direction, continuing to range in speed from 10-20 MPH.
