TONIGHT:

This afternoon’s rainfall had accumulations ranging from 0.1″ to nearly 2.5″ on the Caprock. Once this first line of storms moves off the Caprock, we’ll have a good break in rain activity until tonight. Current models indicate the next line of rain and storms will move into Curry and Roosevelt Counties around 9 PM CDT/ 8 PM MDT. Like what we saw this afternoon, the overnight activity will move from west to east. Lubbock is likely to have rain start falling again around 1 AM CDT. It’s possible for a few storms to develop in the line, but they are not expected to become severe. A few showers may still be leftover around 6 AM CDT off the Caprock, and cloud cover will last through the late morning hours. Our morning lows are expected to range from the upper 50s to the upper 60s from the northwest to the southeast.

SUNDAY:

More sunshine will return closer to the lunchtime and afternoon hours. High temperatures are expected to warm into the mid-80s for mostly everyone around the area. Winds will be from the southwest in the morning, but turn from the southeast by the afternoon with speeds between 10 and 15 MPH. A few isolated showers and storms may be possible in the late afternoon and evening hours. These are not expected to become severe, but brief, heavy downpours are definitely possible. The activity should be over or ending by 10 PM CDT, and the rest of Sunday night will remain quiet.

EXTENDED FORECAST:

A small chance for some isolated showers and storms is possible Monday evening. Our high temperatures will stay in the upper 80s Monday through Thursday with mostly clear to partly cloudy skies. By Friday afternoon, we could have temperatures return to the 90s, sadly. Another high pressure system will build this weekend, causing warmer temperatures and dry conditions.
