Very hot Monday afternoon, previous record tied

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – As of 5 p.m., we surpassed the record high for today’s date as we hit 99°. We hit 98° at 3 p.m. today, and the previous record was 98° set in 1977. Some areas off of the Caprock have already seen triple digits, right around 100°.

There is quite a bit of dry air over the region, so rain chances remain slim through the afternoon, but are not zero, especially after sunset. Isolated to widely scattered showers cannot be ruled out late tonight. Brief downpours will be possible, as well as strong wind gusts.
