Lubbock man pleads guilty to murder for shooting woman in head

LUBBOCK, Texas — Mauriece Hendrix, 23, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to the 2024 murder of Ariel Cade, 22. He was sentenced to 55 years in prison.

EverythingLubbock.com previously reported investigators were already in the 1300 block of 65th Drive on March 14, 2025, for surveillance for an unrelated criminal investigation. Court records said agents watched Hendrix arguing with Cade outside the apartment. According to court documents, the agents witnessed Hendrix shoot Cade in the head. Officers radioed for additional help at 1:45 p.m.

Several agencies swarmed to the area to help look for Hendrix. He was later spotted by the Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter. After a brief chase, Hendrix was taken into custody.

Court documents said Hendrix was accused of robbing the Valero in the 2000 block of 50th Street just days before the shooting. Investigators were able to tie Hendrix to the robbery due to a fingerprint left on the cash register. His aggravated robbery charge was dismissed in his plea agreement.

Hendrix will receive 580 days of credit for time already spent in jail. He must serve at least half his sentence before he is eligible for parole…
