LUBBOCK, TX (KLBK) – KLBK Chief Meteorologist Jacob Riley has your Thursday evening severe weather update for October 23, 2025.

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 23, 2025

SEVERE WEATHER OUTLOOK

Strong to severe storms are expected across portions of the KLBK forecast area through the remainder of our Thursday, into early Friday morning. A level 2/5 slight risk for severe storms has been issued for areas in yellow below. A level 1/5 marginal risk for severe storms has been issued for areas in dark green. Despite the current outlook, areas along and south of the Highway 62/82 corridor have the highest potential of seeing severe storms for the remainder of our Thursday, through the early morning hours of our Friday.

POSSIBLE SEVERE STORM THREATS

The strongest storms will be capable of producing damaging wind gusts around 70 MPH, large hail up to ping pong ball sized (1.50″ in diameter), isolated tornadoes and localized flooding. Localized rainfall amounts of 2-4″ will be possible where the strongest storms occur. ***Not everyone will see rainfall, let alone severe weather. However, those that do could see any of the aforementioned threats.***

FUTURETRACK RADAR

Our future forecast models show that areas south and southeast of Lubbock will see the strongest storms this evening through the overnight hours. Areas in red, pink, and black indicate where the most intense storms will be possible.

Another wave of severe storms will be possible for our Friday. Details on that round will be highly dependent on how tonight’s event plays out.

Have a fantastic Friday, South Plains! Stay Weather Aware!…
