Lubbock man arrested for assaulting and hiding runaway teen

LUBBOCK, Texas — Jacob McHaney, 21, was arrested on Thursday on charges of Sexual Assault of a Child, relating to an incident that took place in January of 2024.

According to an affidavit obtained by EverythingLubbock.com on Monday, the 2024 incident occurred after the family of a runaway juvenile informed officers that they could most likely find their missing child in the 300 block of N. Utica with McHaney. The officers located the runaway, who was 16 years old at the time, along with Mchaney, who was 20 years old and had been harboring her.

Officers checked McHaney’s social media account, where they found that he had posted a video on Snapchat that depicted him and the runaway juvenile lying on a bed that appeared to be inside the camper.

An officer on scene also observed spots on the juvenile’s neck consistent with “hickeys,” according to the police report. When officers confronted McHaney, they detained him and questioned him about how he came into contact with the juvenile. He told officers he had known her for about 3 years, and she asked him to pick her up in Wylie, Texas, and take her back to his camper in Lubbock, Texas…
