Freeze Warnings In Effect Tonight

LUBBOCK, TX (KLBK) – KLBK Chief Meteorologist Jacob Riley has your Tuesday night weather update for October 28, 2025.

Tonight: Clear and cold. Low of 32°. Winds N 12-18 MPH.Tomorrow: Clear and breezy. High of 59°. Winds N→SSW 15-20 MPH, gusts ~30-40 MPH.

ACTIVE ALERTS:

A Freeze Warning has been issued for counties in purple from 2-10 AM CDT or 1-9 AM MDT Wednesday, October 29, 2025. Areas off the Caprock (Hall County south to Borden County, then points east) are under a Freeze Watch from 2-10 AM CDT Thursday, October 30, 2025. Temperatures will be as low as 23-27 degrees at times. This will be a killing freeze for plants, marking the end of growing season 2025! Be sure to remember the 4 Ps! Make sure your people have a way to keep warm. Bring your pets inside if possible, or make sure they have a way to stay warm if they can’t come in. Bring in potted plants sensitive to freezing temperatures, and wrap any exposed piping or outdoor faucets to prevent any damage to them!

TONIGHT:

The coldest night we’ve seen this season is expected across the KLBK forecast area tonight. Locations on the Caprock will fall to or below freezing by sunrise on Wednesday, with areas off the Caprock settling into the mid and upper 30s. Wind chill values will be as low as the mid 10s to mid 20s over northwestern areas, so be sure to dress warm! We will keep a clear sky across the region, with winds out of the north around 12-18 MPH. Gusts upwards of 30 MPH will remain possible, especially over eastern areas.

WEDNESDAY:

Another cool fall day is expected across the region on Wednesday. Highs will peak in the mid 50s to low 60s under a clear sky. Winds will be out of the north around 15-20 MPH, with gusts as high as 30-35 MPH remaining possible. Winds will shift to the south-southwest overnight, with a clear sky remaining across the region. Low temperatures will fall back into the mid 20s to mid 30s, with most areas likely falling to or below freezing.

SHORT TERM FORECAST:

High temperatures will return back to the 60s and 70s for Thursday and Friday, which is exactly our climatological average for this time of year! Morning lows will be in the upper 20s to mid 40s on Friday, which is at or slightly below average. We will see a few more clouds across the region ahead of our next cold front on Friday. That front currently looks to arrive Friday night into Saturday morning. Winds will remain out of the south through the end of the work week, sustained at 10-20 MPH. We will remain dry through the short term forecast period. Our Halloween forecast looks phenomenal across the KLBK forecast area this year! Temps will be in the 60s and 70s at the start of trick-or-treating. By the time you get home, we will start to slip into the 50s! Be sure to have fun, and stay safe out there!

EXTENDED FORECAST:

We will see slightly cooler temperatures on Saturday as a weak cold front passes through the region. We may even see a few showers over the eastern half of the KLBK forecast area! Highs will peak in the 60s to low 70s under a partly cloudy to mostly clear sky. We will see a clear to mostly clear sky remain through the weekend to Election Day next week! Highs will peak in the upper 60s to low 80s each day, with winds out of the south around 10-20 MPH. Morning lows will vary from the low 30s to the mid 40s close to sunrise each day. Don’t forget to fall back 1 hour Saturday night into Sunday morning as Daylight Saving Time comes to an end!
