Lubbock, Let This Be A Reminder: Don’t Leave Valuables In Your Car

A participant in the Facebook page Operation Crime Watch Lubbock recently posted a Blink camera video that should serve as an important reminder to never leave valuables in your vehicle, particularly firearms.

Local Video Shows Thieves Breaking Into  Cars

Watching the video below, there are a few important things to note. The thief doesn’t do any hard work; he only breaks into the car that’s unlocked, and he only tries the passenger side.

When he is successful in getting into the Chrysler, he looks in the glove box and the console- where most people leave things like cash, wallets, guns, etc. Then in an act of extreme jerkdom, he leaves the door open to drain the battery and ruin the victim’s day further.

Lubbock Police Ask The Public’s Help In Curbing Theft

Clearly, one of the best things you can do is ensure your vehicle is locked, and to never leave anything valuable in your car. If we all did these two simple things, we’d put these scumbags out of business.

Vehicle Burglaries In Lubbock

2024 was a big year for reported car thefts in Lubbock, and I’m sure when the numbers come in for 2025, they won’t be pretty either. These numbers are from MAY of 2024- so less than half a year’s worth of break-ins:

In 2024 there have been 312 vehicle burglaries across Lubbock, in which 36 guns have been reported stolen. The Lubbock Police Department, along with law enforcement agencies across the area continue to ask for the public’s help in combating these crimes by removing guns and other valuable items from their vehicles and locking them once they have left their vehicles.
