LUBBOCK, Texas — Experts from the Lubbock health department and Covenant Health both agreed that pertussis or whooping cough cases were rising not just in the state, but also in Lubbock.
According to Katherine Wells, director of Lubbock Public Health, the state saw four times more Pertussis cases in Texas than there was last year.

“So, they’re saying 3,400 cases of pertussis across the state,” Wells said. “So last year we had 32 cases reported in Lubbock. This year we’ve already had 47 and then we still have, you know, another month and a half of reporting.”
