Lubbock shoppers can expect higher prices this Thanksgiving but not empty shelves

LUBBOCK, Texas– With Thanksgiving just days away, shoppers may notice higher turkey prices this year, but local meat experts say availability will not be a problem.

Tate Corliss, senior director at Raider Red Meats, said wholesale turkey prices are up about 35% compared to last year, based on USDA projections for the holiday season. He said avian flu remains one of the biggest drivers of volatility in the poultry market.

“When you have those come through, it shuts down production, creates delays,” Corliss said. “Globally, it changes the market quickly.”
