Local bikers urge both drivers and riders be more aware on roadways to prevent crashes

LUBBOCK, Texas — According to state data, one person dies every day on Texas roadways in a motorcycle crash. This statistic is alarming and has caught the attention of local bikers with the United Valor motorcycle club.

These numbers coupled with reports of deadly crashes right here at home are concerning them for their safety doing what they love to do. Brian Forbes and Dusty Sims with United Valor said one of the main issues they face while on the roadways is distracted drivers.

“I do not like riding up next to a car and all I see is head down and a hand on the wheel…I don’t like seeing that because of the fact that number one it tells me you do not know what is going on around you at all,” Sims said.

Forbes agreed that distracted driving is a huge problem, but riders are just as responsible for ensuring their own safety too…
