TTU Physicians Doctor gives tip to stay healthy this Thanksgiving

LUBBOCK, Texas– Many people are planning to gather for the Thanksgiving holiday. A local doctor is urging people to take simple precautions to avoid brining more than just food to the holiday party. Dr. Joshua McGuire a family medicine doctor with Texas Tech Physicians said seasonal sicknesses are preventable.

“If you are running a fever 24 hours before, sorry, but you might not want to go especially if you have elderly family members or young kids there…and washing your hands is extremely important during those times as well,” Dr. McGuire said.

It’s not just sickness-Dr. McGuire said injuries also happen a lot in the kitchen during Thanksgiving, but the injuries are preventable.

“Be sure if the stove is hot that you don’t touch it. Keep children away from the kitchen if possible if there’s any fires or hot items on the stove. Be careful any time you put a turkey in to fry oil because that’s going to be a high risk of the water causing issues and boiling over and causing a fire,” Dr. McGuire said…
