LUBBOCK, Texas– The Thanksgiving holiday brings food, family and tempting smells for our pets. Dr. Eric Cunningham is a veterinarian with Live Oak Animal Hospital and said many of our favorite dishes can be harsh on our furry friends’ stomach. There’s a handful of ingredients in these dishes that animals are not used to consuming like fats, onions and seasonings.
“We love our pets and we want them to be able to celebrate with us, but we have to remember that they’re not used to eating all the same types of foods that we are… they’re not able to digest them as well as we are. Some things can cause GI disturbances, and we see a lot of that after the holidays,” Dr. Cunningham said.

He said it can be difficult to resist our furry friends, but we should do our best in order to avoid an unnecessary trip to the hospital.
“You want to avoid things like turkey skin and things that are really fatty… you want to definitely avoid not feed anything with onions or grapes or anything like that,” Dr. Cunningham said…
