TONIGHT:
After a lovely Thanksgiving day, a quiet night is expected across the region. We will see clouds continue to increase across the KLBK forecast area, with a mostly cloudy to overcast sky expected by sunrise on Friday. Winds will be out of the south-southeast around 10-15 MPH. Temperatures will bottom out in the low 30s to low 40s around sunrise. If you’re headed out to snag any Black Friday deals, be sure to bundle up and stay warm! We are expecting some patchy dense fog to develop, especially for areas north of the Highway 62/82 corridor and west of Interstate 27. Be sure to drive below the speed limit when encountering dense fog on area roadways, and keep your headlights on low beams!

FRIDAY:
Clouds will hang around central and eastern areas for most of the day on Friday! Morning fog should mix out over northwestern areas by 10 AM CST. We will see more sunshine throughout the day along the state line. High temperatures will range from the mid 60s out west to the mid 50s over the Rolling Plains! We will see a few rain showers along and east of the Caprock. Around 10% of the forecast area could see measurable rainfall (≥0.01″ of rainfall). Winds will be out of the south-southwest throughout the day, with sustained speeds of 15-20 MPH expected to be accompanied by gusts as high as 30-35 MPH. We will remain breezy through the overnight hours, as lows bottom out in the 30s to upper 40s area wide.

SHORT TERM FORECAST:
Winds will remain strong on Saturday due to our increasing pressure gradient as a strong cold front moves into the region. By late morning, we will see this front push into the Lubbock metro area. Winds will shift from the southwest to the northeast behind the front. Sustained speeds of 20-25 MPH will be accompanied by gusts as high as 40-45 MPH. Some patchy blowing dust will be possible. Highs will peak in the 50s and 60s ahead of the front, with temperatures quickly tumbling into the 30s and 40s behind the front’s passage. We will not see any precipitation with this front. Saturday night into Sunday morning will be very cold, as lows fall into the 10s and 20s. Wind chill values will be close to the single digits for northern areas by sunrise on Sunday. Sunday afternoon will be very cold, with highs only rebounding into the 30s and 40s! This is roughly 20 degrees below average for this time of year. A partly cloudy sky will be the main theme for both Saturday and Sunday.

EXTENDED FORECAST:
Well below average temperatures will remain around the region Monday, with Tuesday morning also remaining well below average. By Tuesday afternoon, more seasonal temperatures will return to the region. Highs will peak in the 50s and 60s Tuesday and Wednesday. A cold front will move in late Wednesday into Thursday, dropping Thursday’s highs back into the 40s to mid 50s. Morning lows will be at or below freezing each day next week, with temperatures ranging from the mid 10s to mid 30s. We could see a few stray rain showers with next week’s cold front, but no meaningful precipitation looks likely as of now. We will see sky conditions range from mostly clear to mostly cloudy, with winds shifting back and forth from the southwest to the northeast with each frontal passage.
