Possible record breaking chill on the way as Arctic air slams into the region

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – It’s going to feel like someone left the freezer door open, when you step outside on Sunday morning.

An arctic airmass will settle into the region Saturday night, bringing dangerously cold temperatures to the South Plains.

A strong cold front has passed through the region, flipping winds to the north and knocking temperatures down fast.

Behind it, the air pressure shot up quickly, resulting in breezy winds – a sign that cold, heavy air is pouring in.

Winds will lighten a bit on Saturday night, but that cold air will continue spilling in. The Arctic air mass will continue spreading down south. Low clouds will increase, but not enough to trap much heat…
