LUBBOCK, Texas — During the winter season, students at Preston Smith Elementary School collect items like toiletries and warm clothes to donate to kids in need at the Children’s Home of Lubbock. Then, the third, fourth and fifth graders go on a field trip to donate the items in person.
One of those students was a fifth grader named Vivian.

“We wanted to help the kids in need who don’t have as much as we have, and we want to help them with sweatpants, hair ties, hair wash, anything like that that could help them; and we want to make sure that they’re not freezing when they’re outside and they’re having fun at school with the new stuff that they have,” Vivian said.
