LUBBOCK, Texas— Lubbock native Brittany Fowler and her husband, Kyle Fowler, joyfully welcomed their son, Everett Fowler, into the world in May. The birth went as expected, but complications soon arose.
Baby Everett suffered from meningitis at birth that severely injured his brain, resulting in him losing the majority of his brain to the infection. He also suffered from multiple complications since birth, including seizures, a belly button infection and a brain bleed in one of his ventricles.
He also had to undergo multiple treatments, including three different VP shunts, an external ventricular drain (EVD) and required a G-tube for nutritional feeding.
