The Downtown Lubbock Park Is Now Called, Pickering Park

Soon, Downtown Lubbock will be home to a new park. A park that officials say will be much more than a park. Lubbock’s Downtown Park Now Known as Pickering Park

Officials on Thursday officially named the Downtown Park, Pickering Park. The park is named after the Pickering family of Lubbock. According to KAMC, the Pickering Family donated a gift large enough to make the project actually happen. They helped turn a dream into a reality.

“Today is a defining moment for our city,” said Drew Anderson, LDPC Board President. “Pickering Park is more than a park—it is a promise to our downtown, our families, and our future. We are profoundly grateful to the Pickering Family for their belief in this project and in our community.”

The $12.1 million, privately funded project is the result of collaborations among foundations, corporations, and community partners, along with strong support from the Downtown TIF, the City of Lubbock and Lubbock Experience Inc.
