LUBBOCK, Texas — Texas Tech got another trophy for the case on Tuesday, as defensive duo Jacob Rodriguez and David Bailey claimed the Pony Express Award. The second-year award honors the nation’s most outstanding teammates, regardless of position.
Bailey and Rodriguez stood out on the Red Raider defense that has wrecked opponents all year long. Bailey notched an impressive 13.5 sacks, which ranks second in the FBS level. Meanwhile, Rodriguez has been a turnover generator, as he has forced an FBS-leading seven takeaways. The pair deadly dynamic has caused headaches for opposing offenses throughout the season.
Rodriguez strikes back with Nagurski Trophy nod
The award is Bailey’s first national honor of the season, while Rodriguez earned his third with the win. He is still in the running for the Lombardi Award and Bednarik Award, which will be presented later this week.
