Record heat expected Christmas Day

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Afternoon highs for Christmas Eve topped out at 76° staying shy of the 81° record for today’s date.

Morning lows were in the 40s on Wednesday, above average again, but still chilly with the fog.

Lubbock could tie or break its all-time warmest high for December of 85°, set just this past Monday. The combination of deeper westerly winds and warm air advecting into the region, could create the perfect recipe for record temperatures.

What to expect for the holiday

There is also a chance for fog early Christmas morning, mainly for the southern portion of the vieiwng area. Make sure to leave your house with enough time to arrive at your destination, and use your low beams, not high beams, in the fog!

Thursday promises to be even warmer, with breezy westerly winds in the 20 to 25 mph range across region adding to the warmth.

The warmth will persist through Friday and into Saturday before conditions change dramatically.
