Lubbock staple Buns Over Texas to compete in Orange Bowl Burger Battle

LUBBOCK, Texas — Since 1992, Buns Over Texas has been a building under the South Loop in Lubbock. Now, the local favorite is taking its “hole-in-the-wall” charm to one of the biggest stages in sports.

The restaurant’s crew swapped the South Plains for South Florida this week, traveling to Miami not just to cheer on the Texas Tech Red Raiders against Oregon, but to represent the university in the Capital One Orange Bowl Burger Battle.

“We’re just like one big family here in our little hole,” said the restaurant’s manager, Kyla Lanier. “We’re very grateful and honored. It’s not something any of us ever expected to be done for us.”

The competition, held at Hard Rock Stadium during the Fan Fest, puts Buns Over Texas against two other top-tier culinary teams, one representing the local Miami market and another representing the University of Oregon…
