LUBBOCK, Texas — Gregory Vaught, 57, was charged and indicted with two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon in connection with a crash on I-27 that left two Lubbock deputies seriously hurt back in September.

EverythingLubbock.com previously reported on September 8 around 9:45 a.m., deputies Andrew Cavazos and Jorge Martinez were helping a stranded motorist with a flat tire. A lawsuit previously stated Vaught, a truck driver for Roth Products, was distracted on his phone and crashed into the patrol vehicles as the deputies finished the job.
The crash left Deputy Andrew Cavazos and Deputy Jorge Martinez pinned. Deputy Cavazos was nearly thrown 20 feet over the bridge, dangling by his leg until rescuers helped him. The second patrol vehicle was pushed back into the stranded motorist’s truck, the lawsuit stated.
More charges rack up for Lubbock murder suspect
Vaught was not immediately arrested after the crash. A lawsuit was filed against Vaught and Roth Products on September 16. Vaught was indicted on November 18, and arrested on November 25 in Watseka, Illinois. He was transferred to the Lubbock County Detention Center on December 21.
