Lubbock’s Buddy Holly crosswalk survives to new year but removal awaits

The famous Buddy Holly crosswalk in the singer’s hometown of Lubbock will remain up for at least a couple more months. Lubbock city officials tell Chron they plan to remove the crosswalk art at some point in the spring or later but still could not give an exact date.

“Removal of the Buddy Holly glasses that are in the crosswalks that are located at the intersection at 18th Street and Crickets Avenue will occur within our regularly scheduled maintenance season that occurs in the spring/summer/fall of 2026,” interim Public Works Director David Bragg said in an emailed response.
