Lubbock driver gets 15 years for deadly hit-and-run incident

LUBBOCK, Texas — Christina Hernandez pleaded guilty on Monday to intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle and failure to render aid. She was sentenced to 15 years TDCJ with 71 days of jail credit for the October 2021 incident that resulted in the death of Jacoby Springfield, 20.

EverythingLubbock.com previously reported in 2021 that a vehicle driven by Hernandez was traveling eastbound on 82nd Street, approaching the intersection at Avenue U. Springfield was legally crossing 82nd Street at the crosswalk when Hernandez’s vehicle failed to stop at a red light, striking Springfield before leaving the scene.

LPD officers stopped the vehicle, and she was arrested in the 2700 block of East Slaton Highway.
