Lubbock, Texas – Warm temperatures and gusty southwest winds are creating elevated fire weather conditions across the South Plains today, prompting concerns for rapid fire spread in dry grasslands and open areas from Plainview to Childress.
According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, mostly sunny skies combined with breezy to windy southwest winds will push afternoon highs well above normal, climbing into the mid to upper 70s for much of the region. Some eastern locations, including Childress and Aspermont, may surge into the lower to mid 80s.
