LUBBOCK, Texas — The Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office reported people were abandoning dogs in south Lubbock County, and two non-profits who focus on animal well-being explained the seriousness of the problem.
“Just about every day in Lubbock if you get on Facebook if you get on Next-door if you get you know Neighborhood app you’ll see dogs posted everywhere, every other post is a dog that’s out and about, ‘this dog is in my front yard,’ ‘This dog is in my backyard,’ ‘This dog’s in my alley on the street hit on the side of the road,’ and they’re just they’re being dumped in record numbers,” said Ashley Lindsey with Operation Pawprints.

According to Lindsey, 10 to 15 dogs were left on the side of the road every day in Lubbock County, found alive or dead.
“Irresponsible pet owners, breeding,” Lindsey said. “We’ve just got to figure something out, being able to spay and neuter cost-effectively, because we’re going to get overrun. We already are overrun.”
