Records give insight on ‘Baby Lubbock,’ Texas’ first Safe Haven infant

A baby girl left at a central Lubbock fire station is under the care of the state and will be placed in foster care until a court issues an order that she may be adopted, according to court records reviewed by the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal.

Officials with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services filed a Dec. 29 petition to take custody of the child a day after she was found in a Safe Haven Box by members of Lubbock Fire Rescue’s Station 9 in the 4800 block of 50th Street.
